TLDR I am a shameless novelist….! My favorite gig was cleaning houses part time. I put an ad in craigslist for cleaning, $20-25/hr straight up, never more, and my phone rang @ least 2x per week and I landed 7 out of 10 calls. Why? Most cleaning companies won't come near you without at least a $100 work offer, & want you to contract. They also won't do any thing other than what's contracted.
So that means a housecleaner will not wipe that smudge off the woodwork unless it's in the contract.
Who does business like this? I thought. Lazy ppl, that's who.
I didn't need bonding, or insurance. Most normal ppl just want their house cleaned. I had all kinds of customers, too. One time dust/vac in an empty house was my favorite, they paid me by PayPal, sight unseen!! . One customer needed me to wash 3 sinks full of her dishes cuz her dishwasher broke. Easiest $50 ever. Done in 2 hours plus I wiped down the sink.
Also, private driving is lucrative. I lucked out and found a woman who needed 3 round trips (140 miles) a wk, at 6am & 4pm.
    She willingly paid $1/mile.
Cash. And she was a lovely Hindu lady doing respiratory therapy at a hospital.

Also, Edible Arrangements in my area uses Jobble to contract delivery drivers on all major holidays. 8+ hours, $9 /hr.
I mention these things because they're useful ways to find & do gig work that doesn't necessarily end up showing up in a 1099. Any gig work you find that doesn't involve moving tires is always good.

TLDR Gig work is whatever you can find that's worth it.
Every once in a while, turn off the apps and get creative.
